Let’s get warmed up with some seasonal foods...

There’s nothing better than cosying up to the fire and watching a good movie with a hearty meal, knowing that outside the rain is falling, the wind is blowing and the last of the leaves are being blown off the trees. With some great root vegetables in season, such as butternut squash, pumpkin, parsnips, swede, celeriac to name but a few, a delicious stew or a soup would be the perfect meal. Nothing could be simpler to make than soup or a stew, especially since you can make it the day before.

Using some of the great veggies that are available right now, how about putting some interesting flavours together to give soup that extra kick that you’re not going to find in your tin of Baxter’s! A creamed parsnip soup can be given that extra zing when some lime is added or how about butternut squash soup with some honey and cinnamon? All of these great combinations will just add to the warmth of you meal. Served with some warm crusty bread that you’ve just baked (of course!) and some butter will just end off this perfect warm and nourishing meal. Using the cheaper cuts of meat together with seasonal root vegetables is the best way to make a good old fashioned stew and as simple as making a soup. For some great recipes on both of these, please see our recipes of the month where our chef has put together some fantastic ideas just to make your weekends a bit more cosy on these otherwise cold London days.
