Welcome to Mackintosh's October Newsletter
October is here and September has come and gone in a blink of an eye! With a few new additions to this month’s newsletter and after the hugely successful month, Mackintosh’s catering is extremely excited and upbeat about the future and the upcoming months!
September was our busiest month to date with the added bonus of working at the most gorgeous venues, from Opera Gallery in New Bond Street to some of the most prestigious homes in London! Our featured venue this month is The Glasshouse in Wisley, which is one of the many venues to invite us to be their approved caterer. We plan to be holding many great events at this beautiful venue in the coming year. One of our greatest achievements last month was that Mackintosh’s received its ISO 9001 which is a quality management system certificate. This is a certificate that all catering companies strive to achieve and very few London caterers have attained. To us it’s all about moving from strength to strength, and keeping our clients more than just satisfied, but exceeding all expectations!
But enough about us, let’s get onto more important things, food-what we do best! With autumn in full swing, what flavours do we look out for? Orchard fruits, especially apples, would be the answer! Although available all year round, it is during September and October that these fruits are best. Another October great is of course Halloween. We all love to dress up and have an excuse to eat hoards of yummy sweets. Halloween and pumpkins are almost synonymous, and isn’t it appropriate that these gorgeous veggies are in season? When carving out that scary looking pumpkin head don’t throw out those extra bits, you could always make a divine pumpkin soup, a pumpkin risotto, or even bake the bits and pips and add to a winter salad!
Apples, apples…and more apples
Let’s not forget that with all of us feeling the effects of the “credit crunch” (Those dreaded words) it’s so important to remain healthy and maintain a balanced diet. With fruit being so expensive these days, and the majority being imported, British apples are amongst the very few that are still affordable. (Read more on British Apple varieties and some useful tips about apples)
The British apples featured are but a few to mention. There are over 7500 varieties of apples worldwide, it is such a pity that we only get to see a fraction of these available in our supermarkets. It would be ever so wonderful if all of us had the ability and accessibility to grow our own apple trees, but unfortunately not all of us have that luxury. But with the October month comes the great news of apple festivals being held all around UK, especially here in London. With all these different varieties that we rarely get to see at our local or ever get to grow in our back garden, popping down to one of the many markets happening will be the next best thing! A great family day out, and another reason to celebrate the month of October, the season of autumn and the food it brings with it.
At these “Apple Days” there will be different varieties of apples on display as well as for sale, lots of children’s games to be played (apple bobbing, apple peeling, apple juicing), as well as some educational information for the adults (how to grow your own apples for example). There will also be different apple produce on sale, home-made bakes, preserves, honeys and jams, some apple trees as well as some savoury chutneys and many more!

Hopefully by reading this newsletter you will be inspired and go down to one of these fun days and buy some delicious apples! But if this wasn’t enough inspiration, Mackintosh’s has a competition for all you apple lovers.
Send in your favourite apple recipe. Our head chef Matt will choose the best one and we will feature it in our newsletter next month! We will also throw in a divine bottle of champagne as a thank you for helping us grow our menu. We look forward to your entries!
Are you tired of the same old office lunches where at the last minute someone pops down to the local shop, buys a few odds and ends, lays it down and calls that a “lunch”? Rather let us at Mackintosh’s do the catering for these otherwise mundane meetings! Our head chef has come up with some sample menus to give you a taste of what we can provide, whether it be a cold buffet or a selection of sandwiches, wraps and finger foods we can cater for your every need. There is no need to stress - we deliver too! Click below for some examples of what we can do for you and how we can tantalize your taste buds, and bring office lunches back to life!
A warm summer evening, the delicious scent of exotic plants and the tinkling of a nearby waterfall – the perfect setting for a corporate or private event, if only the climate could be guaranteed. Well now it can be thanks to the latest addition to our list of venues!
Available for evening events, the tropical Glasshouse offers visitors wonderful views over the amphitheatre landscape garden, and the splendid lake. Walking into what seems like the Sahara desert, to then wondering into a tropical haven of bright colours, The Glasshouse is really a picture of beauty. A series of themed floral displays run throughout the year and you are able to book The Glasshouse on the basis of these seasonal and themed displays to enhance the attraction of your event. Whether a sit down buffet is on the cards or a trendy canapé party, London’s top party and wedding caterers Mackintosh’s will turn this “glass house” into an event that you will never forget!
Book an event at any of our featured venues before January 2009 and we will offer you 2 complimentary tickets to any Delfont Mackintosh theatre including canapés & a bottle of house champagne.
