Welcome to Mackintosh's September Newsletter

September here already! It seems only yesterday that Britain was enjoying the sort of summer weather that is experienced in Greece or Turkey and we were eagerly anticipating Andy Murray winning Wimbledon. Although this year’s summer has been somewhat shorter than was predicted by the Met Office, we can at least be satisfied with having won the Ashes!

Nicky Mackintosh feeding the pigsThe Mackintosh team has had a busy August with summer BBQs and drinks parties. Our chefs have been working hard producing delicious canapés to be served at a number of evening receptions and lunch parties, using the best of British seasonal food. During August, Mackintosh’s was asked to cater for two companies launching new and exciting products, which you can read more about below.

September is the month for English pears so you will soon start seeing greengrocers, market stalls and the supermarkets with fantastic buys of this wonderful versatile fruit. To tempt your taste buds we have included a mouth watering pear dessert in our Recipe of the month. It would seem that pork has become very vogue having been featured recently in Country Life and The Daily Telegraph. Admittedly the main focus was on people having pigs as pets or using them as a painting study. There is even an exhibition by Zhang Yuan of two live pigs at the White Cube Gallery, which made superstars of Hirst and Tracey Emin. Zhang could be the first non-Western artist to become a truly global name.

Whilst September is already proving a busy month for early autumn dinner parties it is also the month for party planning and already a number of office Christmas parties are starting to be organised by Mackintosh’s. Even if it’s just a small in-house office Christmas drinks party with some festive fayre, Mackintosh’s will be pleased to put together a proposal to fit your budget. This year Mackintosh’s, as preferred caterer at The Worx of Parson’s Green, is very excited to be working with the hip stylist company, Ultra Violet, on a special Christmas week at this wonderful venue in South West London. Whether it’s a Corporate Christmas party or a private Christmas party for friends and family if you are looking for something really special, have a look at what Mackintosh’s is planning at The Worx, which is also featured as our Venue of the Month.

Apart from planning Christmas events, the Mackintosh team is planning on a number of stylish weddings in and around London during the spring and summer of 2010, so if you have a wedding to plan please give us a ring and we will help you plan that special day.

Some Recent Highlights

Canon Event

Mackintosh’s was delighted have been asked by Canon to cater for the London launch of their exciting new range of Powershot and IXUS cameras. The technology in digital photography is moving forwards at a lightning speed with truly amazing products being brought to the market.

As the invited press and other guests watched the demonstrations of the new cameras, Mackintosh’s served a delicious selection of tea sandwiches such as coronation chicken, rare roast beef, and smoked salmon with lemon butter. This was accompanied with a selection of canapés such as Yorkshire puddings with rare roast beef, horseradish and cherry tomato wafer, and vodka & beetroot cured salmon gravelax on dill bilini with sharp crème fraiche and red chard cress. Afternoon tea wouldn’t be the same without something sweet and consequently Mackintosh’s chefs created scrumptious mini cup cakes and scones laden with strawberries and cream. To accompany these delicacies Mackintosh’s served Prosecco and a soft apple and ginger mojito.

MSK – specialist food ingredients

Mackintosh’s were extremely happy to be chosen by one of our favourite suppliers, MSK, to cater for their demonstration to 40 food writers in late August. MSK are fabulous suppliers of specialist food products and Mackintosh’s chefs were very excited to work with them. The products which range from edible golden flecks to dried chocolate that turns into a sauce in your mouth means any chef can get really creative. Our chefs created an extra special buffet lunch for the food writers of which the braised venison and plum scotch eggs with chestnut mayonnaise were a favourite. Just before the demonstration began the guests had just enough time to sneak in one of the chocolate chilli tartlets with a rustic tuile snap. The lunch was a great success and Mackintosh’s head chef is really looking forward to using some of MSK’s new products.
