Welcome to Mackintosh's October Newsletter

October heralds the arrival of autumn and with it the wonderful colours and smells of this magnificent season. For those living in London there is nothing like walking in one of its many parks (as long as you avoid the plummeting conkers!) and looking at the resplendent colours that now adorn the trees. The sun’s rays may now have lost the power of the summer but they nevertheless still warm the air as they illuminate the deep reds and shimmering yellows. Autumn is fantastic for produce and with it the time for some great classic culinary dishes, such as Boeuf Bourguignon or a wild mushroom risotto. The now very fashionable ‘slow cooking’ is perfect at this time of the year with the plentiful supplies of root vegetables, marrows and pumpkins. And what could be better than apple and blackberry crumble with some thick Devon cream!

September was a very busy month for Mackintosh’s, which included a stunning evening barbeque by the river in Chiswick and a number of catered events during Fashion Week which included several for a top London PR company. Mackintosh’s was also very pleased to have been part of The Mackintosh Foundation’s presentation of a bus to the Variety Club; but more about that later.

October is a great time for entertaining and seeing friends before the madness of Christmas. Mackintosh’s has some great ideas for a seasonal drinks and canapé party. If you are thinking of hosting a dinner party with some friends over Halloween or Thanksgiving please give the Mackintosh team a ring and they will be very pleased to talk to you about how to wow your guests without breaking the bank.

It is obviously with great sadness that we all heard about the recent death of Keith Floyd. He will really be missed as he was not only a tremendous character but also a fantastic chef who really showed that cooking should be fun, especially with a glass of wine!

With Christmas just around the corner, it will be two years since Mackintosh’s started its monthly newsletter and so I thought it was about time we wrote a little about us and the wide range of services that we can provide. I hope you enjoy reading about the great staff that work at Mackintosh’s.

Mackintosh’s catered at the V&A for the opening of our Theatre and Performance galleries for about 500 people and they exceeded all my expectations. They have an extremely competent manager who I would go as far as to say is one of the best in the business... Their food is delicious, presentation very good and they are very happy to work within a budget.
Camilla Graham, Head of Museum Events, The Victoria & Albert Museum

I wanted to thank you for providing such marvellous food for the party on Saturday – it was really quite splendid

Some Recent Highlights

End of summer BBQ

Mackintosh’s was delighted to be asked to organise one of our private client’s annual end of summer party in Strand on the Green. Our brief was to create a relaxed atmosphere with BBQ food whilst bringing to life every inch of their house and gardens.

Guests arrived to the smell of the chefs cooking the butterfly lamb studded with garlic, anchovy and rosemary in the front garden and were greeted by Mackintosh’s staff with a warm smile and a tray of pink champagne. To make the most of the beautiful garden and highlight the elegant statues and plants inside the garden wall, we use a liquid canvas instead of a formal marquee structure. This meant there were no walls covering up the garden plants which added to ambience. The tables were dressed with lawn green tablecloths, aconite yellow napkins, as well as alternate green and amber Royal Scott water glasses. The centre pieces were tall vases filled with apples and leaves overflowing, nightlights with groups of apples and lemons were at the base which finished it to perfection.

Charity Event in Fulham @ The Worx

Mackintosh’s was delighted to cater for a well known charity event at the Worx in Fulham this month. With 300 hundred guests attending it promised to be a great evening. All of the 12 canapés were Asian themed ranging from Miniature salmon ikura don served in a small ceramic spoon to hand rolled nori cones with tempura soft shell crab, pickled ginger, wasabi and black sesame. All of the guests seemed to enjoy the delicate canapés and with their hunger satisfied they were more than willing to give generously to the well deserving charity. The event was a great success and Mackintosh’s look forward to working with this charity again.

Variety Club Charity event
On 23rd September Sir Cameron Mackintosh of The Mackintosh Foundation presented a Sunshine Coach in association with the musical Oliver to the Variety Club Charity.

As part of its social responsibility Mackintosh’s decided to donate the tea that was served to the children of Canon House and the Varity club after the presentation of the coach.
