Welcome to Mackintosh's February Newsletter

When one thought that the worst of the winter was behind us Mr Frosty has shown that he has yet to start his move to the Southern Hemisphere. However the inclement weather has not proved to be too much of a problem for Mackintosh’s to deliver its catering services into London.

The second half of January was very busy for Mackintosh’s Catering with private parties and the Drama Critics Awards. Despite the economic slowdown enquires to Mackintosh’s have not slowed down and all the staff are looking forward to a very busy spring party season catering in and around London and Wiltshire. It would seem that Londoners still want to celebrate their special occasion. What is very interesting are the number of 50th birthday parties and weddings that Mackintosh’s has been asked to cater this year both inside and outside London.

Being February the highlight in every couple’s calendar must be Valentine’s Day. Maybe you would like to make that special someone homemade chocolate truffles, click here to see our chefs recipe. Did you know
Mussels are much more then they seem:

Mussels have been cultivated for almost 800 years in Europe, and have been used as a food source for more than 20,000 years. In fact, prehistoric settlements in Scotland can often be identified by the large mounds of mussel shells found nearby. The reason for their popularity is not only the unique taste but the fact that they have a number of beneficial qualities:

  • They are nutritious, low in sodium and saturated fat, and provide a readily absorbed source of B & C vitamins, amino acids, Omega 3 fatty acids, and vital minerals including iron, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium and zinc.
  • Ounce for ounce mussel meat contains more protein than beef stock, much less fat, many more mineral nutrients and a quarter of the calories

The Blue Mussel (Mytilus Edulis) is the most common mussel found throughout the British Isles and the mantles of lady mussels are orange while gents’ are creamy white.
